TRADE BODY ELECTIONS MOVE ONLINE: DGTO PLANS DIGITAL MONITORING FOR 2026-28 POLLS

The Ministry of Commerce has directed DGTO to ensure transparent and credible elections of chambers of commerce and trade associations across Pakistan. Around 380 trade organizations are presently registered, of which approximately 320 are expected to hold elections during the current election cycle.

A dedicated election portal is proposed to publish schedules, laws, notifications, voter lists and results. DGTO has also been directed to establish a digital dashboard for real-time monitoring and require trade organizations to submit election records in electronic form.

The election process for chambers and associations is expected to continue until 30 September 2026, while the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry election process will run from October to December. Independent observers from government institutions, stronger documentation and standardized election procedures are intended to reduce disputes and improve confidence in the results.
