The Federal Board of Revenue has begun collecting detailed information from edible oil and ghee manufacturers as part of its plan to introduce electronic production monitoring. All Chief Commissioners Inland Revenue have been directed to prepare a complete and updated database of manufacturing and packaging facilities within their jurisdictions.
The exercise covers operational, temporarily closed and non-operational units. FBR has sought information regarding factory locations, operational status, products manufactured, packaging types, stock-keeping unit sizes, filling and packaging lines, installed capacity and the quantities of refined or bulk oil sold or dispatched.
Each factory or manufacturing location must be reported separately, even where multiple premises are operated by the same taxpayer. Manufacturers should therefore expect physical verification and reconciliation of production capacity, stocks, packaging data, sales records and sales tax declarations as the monitoring system moves towards implementation.
